Stocktaking services FAQ's

Below I have provided some answers to some of the many questions I get asked about my stocktaking services.

If you have a specific question that is not answered below, then please contact me on 07917 176005 and I will be happy to discuss it with you further.

Do I need a stocktaker?

Stock is one of your most valuable assets and so, to protect your profitability, regular stock audits are essential. While you can manage stocktaking in-house, most establishments do not have the time or expertise to do it well and, therefore, do not reap all the benefits of running a regular stock take.

Do I need an independent stocktaker?

A stocktake is a chance to have fresh eyes look at how your business is managing stock at all the different points in which it is interacted with. An independent stock auditor provides you with impartial results and feedback.

How do I know if a stocktaker is qualified?

The qualifying body for the Licensed Trade is the Institute of Licensed Trade Stock Auditors (ILTSA). Members of ILTSA have had to pass stringent exams before they are allowed to use the MILSA designation. Always ask your stocktaker whether they are a qualified member of ILTSA.

Some members of ILTSA are also accredited, which means that there working practices have been reviewed and adjudged to be good by a panel of experts.

Paul Hunt is a member of ILTSA and is accredited.

Do I need an experienced stocktaker in my sector?

While stocktaking systems can facilitate the county and number analysis, the real value in using a stocktaker is their experience to interpret the data. By selecting a stock auditor with a lot of experience in your section you are assured that they will interpret the data correctly, identify real issues and provide you with relevant sound advice on how to progress.

Paul Hunt has been a stocktaker for pubs bars, hospitality, catering and events for over 15 years.

I am buying/selling, do I need a stock take?

Yes. If you are involved in a change of ownership then an independent valuation of the stock in hand will be required by both parties. An independent stocktaker such as Paul Hunt can work for both the buyer and sellers which helps keep the costs down.

How often should I have a stock take?

This will vary by trade, premises and stock turnover. High turnover premises tend to have monthly audits where as smaller businesses may be happier with quarterly visits. At Hunt Management Solutions we will discuss your stocktaking needs and then make recommendations on the type of programme that would best suit your business.

Can you run reports using my EPoS system

Yes, we are familiar with most EPoS system and will be able to generate PLU reports from it.

How quickly will I receive my stock report?

If all of the data we need is available on the day of the stocktake we can provide you the report on-site, before we go.

We work with licensed trade, hospitality and catering across Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Bath and the South West. In particular this includes pubs, bars, sports clubs, social clubs, restaurants, hotels and events. If you are unsure whether we can cover your event please just give us a call.
